“Island Hideaway”

During this past winter, as we stayed home and social distanced because of COVID, I think a lot of us daydreamed about a vacation to some remote tropical island accessable only by boat. Sunny beaches, ocean breezes and the sound of the waves gently rolling into shore. A few small huts scattered around for sleeping under the palms. Sounds like a heavenly getaway!

“Keel-billed Toucan”

The keel-billed toucan is native to Central America. Best known for its oversized bill, it is a large and colorful bird with black plumage, a bright yellow throat and cheeks, vibrant red feathers under its tail and a yellow-green face. Its light green, banana-shaped bill is splashed with orange and tipped with red and blue, and can grow to be a third of the size of the toucan’s 20-inch body. Though cumbersome looking, the bill is actually quite light because it is made of protein and supported by hollow bones. The toucan’s very broad wings, however, are heavy and make flight laborious.

“Red-Eyed Tree Frog”

This was a fun little painting to create. It’s inspiration comes from one of my first mentors, a wonderful little elderly lady named Margaret Brown. I met Margaret when I took a part-time job during my college years at a local liquor distributor. The job was painting signs for their displays with prices and illustrations. This was before they moved to computer graphics. Margaret was retiring and I was training as her replacement. While working with her, I discovered that she was a talented painter and active in the local artist community. Her favorite subject was tree frogs. (I tried to find a photo of one of her paintings without success.). I learned a lot from her before her retirement and was even invited over to see her studio. Although Margaret passed away many years ago, I still remember her fondly. This little frog painting is a tip of the hat to Margaret.

“Moonrise”

“Moonrise” is a smaller version of a previous painting, “Stargazing on Earth 2.0”.

Commission. Acrylic painting on 16 x 20 inch stretched canvas.

“Hill Country Lake”

“Hill Country Lake” is inspired by the Ozark hill country that surrounds where I live in Missouri. When you travel down Highway 65 south towards Branson, MO from Springfield, the view from the road is filled with rolling hills, rivers and lakes. I have always found this area to be very scenic. We get a lot of tourists and retirees who come in for the beauty of the area.

“Sailing Away”

“Sailing Away” is a small original acrylic painting on 8 x 8 x 1 inch stretched canvas. The painting wraps around the edges of the canvas. It’s a very tranquil and relaxing scene. Unframed. Signed by the artist.

“Morning Tulips”

Inspired by a photo I saw online, “Morning Tulips” is a colorful impressionistic view of a field of red, yellow, purple, pink and white tulips under a morning sky in the Holland flower fields. Painted on 12 x 24 inch stretched canvas. ORIGINAL SOLD.

I decided to take a few painting progression photos this time to share:

Because of the hundreds of tulips in the field, I ended up investing a lot of time with this painting just making flowers! Even though it’s more impressionist, I still wanted to show the progression from far away to the forefront. The feeling of the field stretching away into the distance gives more depth. And even though this small painting ended up being a lot of work, it was worth the end result!

“Fairy Ring”

“Fairy Ring” depicts a scene where two tiny fairies play around a mushroom ring in enchanted woods. Glowing fairy orbs dance all around the twilight woods.

Original acrylic painting on 22 x 26 stretched canvas. ORIGINAL SOLD.
