“Autumn Stream”

“Autumn Stream” is a colorful painting of a small stream running through the woods while fall leaves decorate the trees.

Original acrylic painting on 9 x 12 inch stretched canvas. ORIGINAL SOLD.

“Autumn Light”

“Autumn Light” was inspired by the anticipation of the beautiful colors of fall. I live in the Ozarks, and we have some of the most beautiful fall foliage around. People get out and just drive around looking the wide variety of colors produced by the different kinds of trees.  I wanted to give a representation in my painting of just how vibrant the colors can seem. The backyard setting came from memories of home when our trees would turn each fall. The last addition was the leaf pile and rake, because that job was always mine!

ORIGINAL SOLD.

"Rainbow's End"

“Rainbow’s End” is a fun, colorful fantasy landscape. I wanted to do a painting with a rainbow as the subject. After painting the sky, I thought about what someone might find at the end of a magical rainbow. This led me to gold and leprechauns, which then led me to thoughts of Ireland. And thinking about Ireland and all the beautiful green landscapes brought me to the idea of a mountain lake with a rainbow sky reflection. I love this one!

"Mysterious Island"

It has been several months since my last painting. The holidays have come and gone, and we have entered a brand new year. Time to get busy again!

This new painting came into being as most of my work begins. Every time I try to plan a painting, I lay down the foundations and end up washing over it in frustration. Then when the paint dries, the underlying shapes form a completely unique image that sparks an idea that I can build on.

“Mysterious Island” started with the sky and sea, painted in an impressionistic style. The underlying shape of the island in the right foreground was already underneath, so I built upon it, creating a mountain in the background. I started the beach, then painted the trees and plants on the shore. By now the left side of the painting was looking a bit lonely, so another island in the distance seemed appropriate.

At this point, I became stuck. I needed input. After posting it on Facebook in a painting group and consulting family members for their opinions, I was ready to finish. I did some clean up work on a few areas. Then I had to make a decision. The lower right of the painting seemed empty with nothing but water to fill it. Someone online had suggested birds. I have never tried to add animals, or birds to my landscapes. But I need to start trying new things if I want to grow as an artist.

I started with some white flying birds in the distance. Then I took the plunge and started painting the white bird flying toward the island in the foreground. I had to correct myself a few times, but I think the end result is a fairly decent impression of a bird in flight. Adding the shadow of the bird on the water’s surface, I decided it was complete.

And that is the birth of “Mysterious Island”. It’s a colorful and peaceful landscape I hope all viewers will enjoy.

Acrylic on 16 x 20 inch stretched canvas.

"Sunset on Small Creek"

This is a small 8 x 10 inch canvas board painting that I did while I was ill a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to paint, so I grabbed a small canvas to work on.  I was in the mood for really bright color, so I decided to paint a really vibrant pink and orange sunset sky. To set the colors off, I chose a simple black silhouette landscape with trees and brush.  I wanted to put the little creek in so I could reflect the sunset colors off of the water against the black.  I like this little painting a lot.

ORIGINAL NO LONGER AVAILABLE FOR SALE.

“Winter Wonderland in Pink”

This painting was inspired by thoughts of the upcoming holidays and colder weather. Colorful Christmas trees are popular again (pink, purple, silver, etc). So I though how fun it would be to take a walk through snowy woods filled with colorful pastel trees.

This is an acrylic painting on stretched canvas measuring 16 x 20 inches.

Original painting is sold.
